Dr. Kristan Aronson, longstanding Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences, has been honoured by a former student through a newly established fellowship in her name. The Chen-Aronson Graduate Research Fellowship has a pledge commitment of $10,000 per year for five years, for full-time MSc or PhD students enrolled in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The fellowship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students with demonstrated research interest in the causes of cancer.
Zheng Chen is a former MSc student in the Department, who was under Kristan's supervision. According to Zheng, "As a graduate student in epidemiology at Queen’s University, I really enjoyed the academic environment in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The faculty helped me develop critical thinking skills that I use daily in my career as an investment portfolio manager. Although I am not working in public health or epidemiology, the open-minded spirit and critical thinking training became a part of me that has enhanced my successful career. I hope that students will continue to enjoy conducting research with Dr. Aronson and other faculty, and I hope this scholarship can reduce their financial burden."
The Department thanks Mr. Chen for his generous support of our students!
